Foran,Jim - Judd,Ian [B00]
CT 28490, 2005
[Notes by David Hardy]

1.e4 d5 2.e5 Avoiding prepared lines 2...Nc6 [2...c5 can lead to either a French or Caro-Kann] 3.d4 f6 4.f4 Bf5 5.Nf3 Qd7 6.Bb5 a6 7.Bd3 0-0-0 8.Nbd2 Bxd3 9.cxd3 Qg4 10.g3 Jim's opening idea seems to have backfired - Ian needs to open some lines. 10...g5 [10...e6 11.Qe2 h5 12.Nf1 Nh6 13.Ne3 Qg6 leaves White with something to prove] 11.Nb3 e6 12.fxg5 fxe5 [12...Bb4+ 13.Bd2 (13.Kf2 fxe5 14.Nxe5 Nxe5 15.dxe5 Qf5+ 16.Bf4 h6 ) 13...Bxd2+ 14.Nfxd2 Qxg5 both look fine for Black ] 13.Nxe5 Nxe5 14.dxe5 Bb4+ 15.Bd2 Bxd2+ 16.Qxd2 Ne7 [16...Rf8 this look strange but I think Ian needed to exchange a pair of Rooks whilst trying to leave the White king in the centre] 17.Rf1 Nf5?! [17...Rhf8 18.Rf6 Ng8 19.Rxf8 Rxf8 20.Qe2 Qxg5 again I prefer Black] 18.Qf4 Qh3 19.Rf2 Rhf8 20.Nc5 chess is about timing and here Jim siezes the perfect moment to hop the Knight in. 20...Rde8 21.Rc1 d4 22.Qe4 if c6 then Nxb7 crashes in 1-0
