1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Nf6 3.d4 Qxd5 4.Nc3 Qd8 [4...Qa5 tends to be the normal move - despite recent attempts to revive this line White seems to win a lot more than his fair share. For a great attacking game see Fischer - Robatsch (Varna Ol 1962)] 5.Bc4 Bg4 6.Nge2 e6 7.Bg5 Be7 8.Qd2 h6 9.Bf4 c6 10.f3 Bf5 11.Ng3 Bg6 12.0-0 0-0 I guess White is slightly better here as he has more space - Black must seek some exchanges to free his game 13.Rae1 Nbd7 [13...Bxc2 14.Qxc2 (14.Bxe6 fxe6 15.Qxc2 Qxd4+ 16.Be3 Qd7 look level but I prefer White especially with that backward pawn on e6) 14...Qxd4+ drops a pawn but White replies 14.Bxe6] 14.Bd3 Bxd3 15.Qxd3 Nd5 16.Nxd5 cxd5 this is very similar to an Exchange Caro where the plan should be to get f5 in 17.c3 Rc8 18.Rf2 Bh4 19.b3 a subtle move stopping the Knight getting to c4 and preparing a4 19...Nb6 20.a4 Re8 21.a5 Na8 22.a6 b6 23.c4 dxc4 24.bxc4 g5 under pressure Ian makes an error - I think he had to play Nc7 and Bf6 and hope for the best 25.Be5 Nc7 26.f4! opening lines 26...Nxa6 27.fxg5 Bxg3 28.Rxf7! nicely spotted - If Kxf7 then Qh7 mates 1-0
